The Fostering of Peace and Justice, a Job Description


The Steering Committee of The Interfaith Resource Center for Peace and Justice (Peace and Justice Center) is responsible to the general membership for the fostering of the mission and purpose of our organization.

Our duties include participation in strategic planning, policy decisions, and ensuring adequate financing is flowing into the Peace and Justice Center. 

This we commit to in order for the organization to achieve its mission and goals via the monitoring of the execution of plans and events enhancing the common good.  
Members of the Steering Committee must be willing to set the example for attending meetings, following through on time and financial commitments, and participate fully in the concensus decision-making process. 

The Steering Committee is most responsible for presenting the Peace and Justice Center's image to the community and to solicit its support in achieving the goals of The Interfaith Resource Center for Peace and Justice.

FISCAL Responsibilities:

  • Review the revenues and expenses on a regular basis to ensure the mission Peace and Justice Center is being upheld.
  • Strengthen the financial base of our organization by participating in and contributing to our fundraising efforts for the Peace and Justice Center.
  • Participate in strategic planning and the setting of long-term goals.
  • Participate in periodic agency and leadership performance reviews and effective steering assessments.
 

 LEGAL Responsibilities:

  •  Act on behalf of the Peace and Justice Center and its interests, putting aside personal concerns, affiliations, or constituencies.
  • Approve procedures and policies to ensure that the Peace and Justice Center is organized and administered in a manner that is in compliance with applicable law.

PEACE AMBASSADOR Responsibilities:

  • Act on behalf of the Peace and Justice to promote our mission, generating good will for the organization, and encouraging support for the efforts of the staff and volunteers.
  • Make introductions to new communities, corporate sponsors, foundations, and individuals dedicated to peace and justice issues.

 SPECIFIC BOARD Responsibilities:

  • Everyone is expected to attend and participate fully in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Everyone is responsible for raising the monies determined by the board of directors (give or get).
  • Everyone is expected to sit on a task group, and shall provide leadership for committees.
  • We are required to disclose, and abstain from actions, that are or may be viewed as conflicts in interest with our peace and justice work.
